OUR STORY
Our business was established more than 80 years ago by our father and grandfather, Morris Orkin. What began as a single clothing store in Knox Street, Germiston, grew into a group of seven stores along the same street.
The stores offered a wide range of men’s, ladies’, and children’s clothing and shoes, as well as blankets and suitcases. The blankets, in particular, were highly valued — each design carried its own meaning and cultural significance, making them treasured possessions among many communities.
As time went on, the demand for these traditional items declined, and Knox Street’s popularity as a shopping destination faded. About 25 years ago, the business was relocated to Golden Walk in Germiston, where it continues to thrive under the leadership of Ivan Orkin and his son, David Orkin.
ABOUT OUR STORES
Our business consists of four retail stores, each specializing in men’s, ladies’, and children’s footwear, as well as men’s clothing.
Our footwear division focuses on premium branded names such as Arbiter, RM of Italy, Florsheim, Crockett & Jones, Barker, John Drake, Le Coq Sportif, BMW Puma, Mercedes Puma, Caterpillar, and Palladium, among many other renowned brands.
Our clothing division also features leading labels including Strachan & Myburgh, Dobbs, Evans, Polo, Pringle, Jonathan D, Cutty, Brentwood, Grant Knitwear, and Levi’s, plus several others.
We offer a convenient three-month lay-by system and have recently launched our online store, allowing customers across South Africa to shop their favourite brands with ease.
